The man, who lives on the 700 block of North Briarwood Drive, said he has since revoked the power of attorney and wants to pursue a complaint through Adult Protective Services. The reporting officer noted the matter appears to be civil in nature and would likely need to proceed through the courts. No charges have been filed.

A property manager reported that a tenant had vacated a rental trailer on the 1000 block of Elm Street owing several months' rent and left the unit heavily soiled with trash and animal waste, rendering it uninhabitable, according to a July 14 police report. The property owner said he intends to pursue civil action against the former tenant if the property is not cleaned. No criminal charges were filed; the matter was documented as an information report.

A Sheridan woman told police she was verbally harassed outside the Grant County Courthouse on the 100 block of West Center Street on July 15 as she left a circuit court hearing. According to the police report, the woman said another woman shouted a sexually explicit remark at her involving the complainant's adult son. The comment, she said, was overheard by several family members present. The report was filed for documentation. No charges were listed, and no arrest has been made in connection with the incident.

A 50-year-old Sheridan man reported an unauthorized withdrawal from his checking account to a company he said he had not used with that account previously, according to a police report filed July 16. The man, who lives on Pumphrey Drive, told police his bank's claims department required a police report before proceeding with a dispute. No suspect has been identified, and the case remains open.

A citizen out running near the Sheridan Recreation Center's soccer fields on the morning of July 16 alerted an officer that a small black car had been parked with its engine running near the upper ball fields on South Rose Street since roughly 6 a.m. and was still there four hours later, according to police reports. An officer located the vehicle and approached the driver, Shawn Conner Martin, 19, of Royal, who initially refused to provide identification before complying after repeated requests.

A teenage female passenger in the vehicle would not identify herself and gave officers a name and phone number that could not be verified, the reports state. Additional officers, including a supervisor, responded to the scene. When the pair did not exit the vehicle voluntarily, officers removed them; Martin was handcuffed and transported to the Grant County Detention Center, and the teenager was taken to Juvenile Intake. Both were charged with obstructing governmental operations. As with all reported suspects, Martin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
