A Grant County sheriff's deputy shot a dog Tuesday night after the animal bit him while he was trying to make contact with a homeowner near Grapevine to return a license plate found nearby, according to a sheriff's office report.
Deputy Steven Childers was parked near the Highway 35 bridge that evening when a woman drove up and told him she had found an Arkansas license plate, 551ZRO, according to his statement.
Childers ran the tag and traced it to a residence in the 1800 block of Grant County Road 28.
He said he went to the address to make sure the vehicle it belonged to hadn't been stolen and that the plate hadn't simply fallen off.
