A Poyen man was arrested on a DWI charge July 18 after crashing his pickup truck on Grant County Road 310, according to a Grant County Sheriff's Office report.

Deputy Steven Childers said in the report he was dispatched to a vehicle accident with injury around 5:34 p.m. and found a gray Chevrolet pickup with heavy front-end damage. The driver, identified as Timothy Dehart, 39, was found lying on the ground near the driver's door and told the deputy he had looked down at his phone before crashing, the report states.

Childers said he smelled the odor of alcohol coming from Dehart and noted his eyes were glassy, bloodshot and watery. Dehart denied drinking, according to the report, but the deputy located an open, still-cold container of Platinum 7x inside the truck.

A preliminary breath test administered with the assistance of medical personnel returned a result of .154, the report states. Because Dehart was being transported to the hospital for treatment of a broken leg, Childers obtained a search warrant for a blood sample, which was later collected by hospital staff.

Dehart was charged with driving while intoxicated. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

A Poyen woman reported her all-terrain vehicle was stolen from her North Front Street property sometime between the evening of July 13 and the afternoon of July 14, according to a Grant County Sheriff's Office report.

Rita Watson, 73, told Deputy Rick Stephenson her 2007 Yamaha Rhino, described as hunter green with a roof-mounted light bar and valued at $4,500, was missing from her property, the report states.

No suspect has been publicly identified in the report, and the case remains under investigation.

An all-terrain vehicle was destroyed by fire the evening of July 18 near Highway 229 north of Poyen, according to a Grant County Sheriff's Office report.

Deputies were dispatched around 8:27 p.m. after callers reported a vehicle fire with flames reaching an estimated 15 feet in the air, the report states. Deputies located the owner, identified as Keith Nichols, who said he and another man, Zach Klein, had been fishing nearby for about an hour before relocating and losing sight of the ATV.

Nichols told deputies a passerby noticed the fire from a nearby bridge and alerted them, and he immediately called 911, according to the report. The Poyen Fire Department responded and extinguished the flames.

Deputies collected written statements from both men along with photographs. The report does not indicate a cause for the fire or any suspected wrongdoing. The vehicle's estimated value was listed at $30,000.
