Grant County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a shooting at 3327 Highway 270 West in Sheridan around 8:33 p.m. on Labor Day.

Deputy Steven Childers was en route when he was told the suspects from the shooting “called in” and were at a residence on North Elm Street in Prattsville.

Arriving there, Childers found two men, who were later identified as Parker Griffin, 20, and Tucker Black, 21, outside a vehicle in the driveway.

“Upon my arrival on Elm Street, I observed a white male with no shirt and black pants standing by a vehicle in the driveway who was later identified as Parker Griffin, and a second male in a long-sleeve shirt and black pants,” Childers wrote in his narrative.

Childers told the two men to get on the ground. They did not comply.

“I then gave them verbal commands to come to the front of my patrol unite,” he wrote. “I placed both suspects in handcuffs and checked them for weapons.”

Sergeant Brian Sweeney also responded to the scene.

He wrote in his report, “I was advised by Sheriff Roberts to respond to 205 N Elm Street (Prattsville), where Deputy S. Childers was out with the suspect(s). During this time, Arkansas State Police CID had taken control of the scene. Chief Shepherd advised me to have each suspect transported separately to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. He also advised to have one suspect placed in the holding cell and the other one in the interview room.”

Sweeney recovered three shell casings, marking each with torn pieces of notebook paper borrowed from a Sheridan Police officer on scene. Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division ultimately took over the scene and the broader investigation.

According to Detective Randy Irby's report, Griffin after being read his Miranda rights, said he, victim Hayden Wilkerson, 19, and Black had gone to Walmart together and that Wilkerson asked to be dropped off at the Highway 270 West residence.

Griffin said that after they arrived, an argument began. As he and Black were leaving, the homeowner came out and charged at them, ultimately swinging at Black.

Griffin said Black knocked the man down.

Wilkerson and two others then rushed at him and Black.

Griffin told investigators he grabbed a pistol that was in the Tahoe’s passenger door and fired, saying he "meant to shoot at the ground" during what he described as a "fight or flight moment".

Parker, according to the report, said he had shot them and “didn’t know exactly who he had shot. The reports continued, “Parker advised that he was in fear after people ran after him and watched his friend get beaten up.”

Wilkerson and a second victim, Braxton Miller, 22, sustained injuries.

Investigator Mason Thornton drafted and obtained a search warrant from Circuit Judge Stephen Shirron's authorization for the North Elm Street property and the suspects' vehicle.

Deputies conducted a security sweep before ASP investigators arrived. No occupants were found inside during that sweep.

According to the incident report, Griffin of Sheridan was arrested at the scene on battery in the first-degree charge, a felony.

Griffin will appear in Grant County Circuit Court Sept. 16 at 8:30 a.m.
