A Sheridan man was cited after police state he came out of his home with a handgun, yelled at a group of teenagers gathered nearby, and fired several rounds into the ground, according to a Sheridan Police Department incident report obtained by Grant County Fire.

Officer Chance Thomas was dispatched around 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, to the area of the El Parian in the 1100 block of North Rock Street in response to a disturbance call, the report states.

Upon arrival, Thomas made contact with several teenage males who said they had been in the parking lot recording video of a car.

The teens told police that while they were recording, a man came out of a home near the parking lot and began yelling at them.

According to the report, the man waved a handgun in their direction, fired two to three shots into the ground, and then went back inside.

Thomas went to the neighboring residence and made contact with the resident, identified in the report as Ronald Lee Sollars.

Sollars told the officer he had been trying to sleep when he heard loud music coming from the parking lot and went outside to tell the group to turn it down.

Sollars acknowledged bringing a gun outside with him and firing several rounds into the ground, the report states, but he denied pointing the firearm at anyone. He told police he had not felt threatened by the teenagers but was "annoyed" by the noise.

Sollars showed the officer a .22-caliber Ruger Wrangler revolver. He was issued a citation for discharging a firearm within city limits.

Thomas notified a detective of the incident. The case status is still open, according to the report.
