The Sheridan Water and Sewer Committee met May 26 at City Hall with Manager David Fitzgerald, committee members Lynn Camp, Betty Cook, Lee Henson, Jake Easley, and Austin Howard attending.
Mayor Cain Nattin was also present and recorded the minutes.
The group moved quickly — 40 minutes — through routine business before turning to a slate of infrastructure updates and a significant grant authorization.
The Main Street well is slated for a washout beginning the first week of June. Separately, seven water meters on Shackleford Road are being replaced as part of the ongoing road widening project, with Sheridan Excavating assisting on-site.
Staff development and audit underway
Fitzgerald told the committee that Max Hicks of McClelland Engineers is working on a rate study audit due to the Arkansas Department of Agriculture by July 1st, 2027.
Grant County water leaders meet
Nattin reported on a recent meeting with Senator Matt Stone, SSWA President Rusty Hawkins, LCWA President Carol Guffy, Arkansas Rural Water, AEDC, and ANRC to address water issues across Grant County. No immediate outcomes were announced, but the group plans to meet again.
Committee backs grant application
In the evening's most significant vote, the committee unanimously authorized Nattin to apply for a grant to fund a new sediment basin and filter media for the SWW plant.
