Sheridan man arrested after breaking down wife's bedroom door with hammer
SHERIDAN — A Sheridan man was arrested July 3 after police say he used a hammer to break through his wife's bedroom door during a domestic argument.
Officers with the Sheridan Police Department responded to a residence in the 900 block of Jones Drive shortly before 10 p.m. after a report of a domestic disturbance. According to the police report, Leroy Windsor told officers that he and his wife, Charlene Windsor, had argued about family matters before she locked herself in her bedroom.
Windsor said he wanted to continue the conversation and grabbed a hammer, striking the bedroom door multiple times in an attempt to get inside, the report states.
Officers reported finding several holes in the bedroom door, some going all the way through, and located a hammer inside Windsor's bedroom with white marks and dust matching the damaged door. Charlene Windsor told officers she feared for her safety.
Windsor was arrested and booked on a charge of third-degree domestic assault. He has not yet entered a plea. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Woman arrested after husband injured with knife during Fourth of July dispute
SHERIDAN — A Sheridan woman was arrested July 4 after her husband was injured with a knife during an argument at a residence in the 1000 block of Little Creek Cutoff, according to a Sheridan Police Department report.
Officers responded to the home shortly after 3:40 p.m. after a neighbor reported hearing a woman screaming. When police arrived, they found blood near the carport and encountered Steven Bottoms, who was bleeding from his right arm.
Bottoms initially told officers he had slipped and fallen, but later said his wife, Breanna Bottoms, had cut him with a knife during an argument that began after the couple and the homeowner, Steven Johnson, exchanged words, the report states. Bottoms was treated by medical personnel and told he would need stitches.
Officers searched the home and located Breanna Bottoms hidden under a blanket in a bedroom. She was taken into custody on a charge of second-degree domestic battering.
According to the report, a neighbor told police that Johnson approached her before leaving the property, handed her his wallet for safekeeping and asked her to call 911, telling her there was a woman in his house being assaulted. Johnson left the scene and did not respond to further attempts by officers to reach him.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Sheridan officer assists in Grant County pursuit; suspect apprehended after fleeing into woods
SHERIDAN — A Sheridan police officer assisted the Grant County Sheriff's Office in a vehicle pursuit July 5 that ended when a suspect crashed near the intersection of Grant County Road 9 and Grant County Road 702 and fled on foot into the woods, according to a Sheridan Police Department report.
Officer Winston Thomas said in the report that the suspect, identified as Jimmy Kilburn, was ordered to stop and took a fighting stance toward him. Thomas deployed his Taser, but the probes failed to make contact as Kilburn continued to flee, according to a follow-up entry from Officer Jacob Inman.
Kilburn was apprehended a short time later by Thomas and deputies with the Grant County Sheriff's Office. The report does not specify what charges, if any, Kilburn faces in connection with the pursuit.
Fallen tree knocks out power to parts of Sheridan, injures driver on Church Street
SHERIDAN — A tree-removal job turned into a widespread power outage and a minor injury July 5 when a tree fell across West Church Street, striking a passing vehicle and taking down utility lines, according to a Sheridan Police Department report.
Officer Ken Wicker responded to the area of West Church Street and North Oak Street around 9:23 a.m. after the tree came down. According to the report, Ricky Fabry of Ricky's Tree Service had been hired by Southeast Arkansas Behavioral Health, located in the 300 block of North Oak Street, to remove the tree from the organization's property.
As the roughly 30- to 40-foot tree fell, it struck a vehicle driven by Mary Brown, who was traveling eastbound on West Church Street at the time, the report states. Brown suffered a minor injury to her right arm and was transported by MEMS ambulance for treatment.
The falling tree also brought down more than five utility poles along with Entergy power lines and Kinetic fiber-optic and copper lines, according to the report. The downed lines fell onto a parked vehicle belonging to Christine Caciatorre, damaging the vehicle's roof.
The incident was classified as a civil/informational matter in the police report.
Sheridan man reports Tahoe towed from property amid dispute with wife
SHERIDAN — A Sheridan man told police his Chevrolet Tahoe was removed from his property in the 1200 block of West 8th Street on July 7 by a tow truck marked “Caveman Wrecker Service” while he was in court, according to a Sheridan Police Department report.
Officer Ken Wicker said in the report that the vehicle's title was in the name of the man's wife, Mary Gifford, who had requested a civil standby with the wrecker service as the tow was carried out. Officers determined the matter to be civil in nature due to an ongoing legal dispute between the two and advised the man to consult an attorney.
No criminal charges were filed.

• A woman told police her vehicle sustained front-bumper damage of unknown cause June 29 while she was running errands in Sheridan, including stops at Walmart and Dollar General. No suspect or exact location was identified.
• A driver reported a hit-and-run near Shoemaker Road and Oak Tree South on July 3, saying another vehicle struck the passenger-rear side of her car. The other driver and exact location were not identified, and the report was filed as informational.
• A woman staying in the 100 block of East Vine Street told police a friend took her laundry to wash on July 2 and had not returned it. The friend, it was reported, had stopped responding to calls and texts. No crime was confirmed.
